The
Basics of Reading Glasses.
Full
reading glasses, that is those
that fully cover each eye, are suitable
for people who spend a lot of time looking at
close-up material. If you glance up and across
a room through full reading glass lenses, everything
will appear blurry.
By contrast, half-eye reading glasses enable
you to look down and through the lenses for
near work, then up and over the glasses to see
at a distance. Generally, people who have never
needed reading glasses before will start with
a pair of half eye reading glasses.
Here's a tip from my own ophthalmologist, a
leading Park Avenue medical eye doctor. The
quality of reading glasses available today are
of very good quality. That may or may not include
the glasses you find at drug and dollar stores.
He also told me that the wrong reading glasses
cannot do damage to your eyes.
Many
optometrists and opticians prefer to make a
custom pair of reading glasses for their customers
because they can charge a lot more. That's not
to say that ophthalmologists and optometrists
don't provide valuable services. Everyone
should get an eye exam every year.
Generally most people look for style first.
But remember, these are your eyes we're talking
about. Buying reading glasses
is important to seeing clearly, avoiding fatigue,
and headaches, so we need to know a few things
about the glasses we're buying.
